French women's football championship 1980/81

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French women's football championship 1980/81 was the seventh playing of this title after the official recognition of women's football by the French Football Association in 1970. The comparable competitions between the world wars remained unofficial, especially since they were organized by an all-women sports association.

The championship 1980/81 - there was no top league in France before 1992 - was played in a mixture of group play - and knockout mode ; In order to take part in the nationwide final round, the women's teams had to qualify at the regional level beforehand. The previous year's champions from Stade Reims were unable to defend her title; instead, the Reims long-term rivals of these years, AS Étrœungt , won their third French championship at the third meeting of the two teams in a final.

Preliminary round

The mode had been changed since the previous season and the actual finals had been streamlined. First, a regional champion was determined in six leagues of eight women’s teams in a double round of points with home and return matches. These six group winners were divided into two groups of three in the semi-finals, in which each club competed against each other in one encounter, so that all teams had a home and an away game. In the event of a tie - the two-point rule applied  - the better goal difference was decisive. The first two of the group qualified directly for the final, which was held in just one match and also on a neutral place. In the event of a tie, there was no extra time, but the champions were determined in a penalty shoot-out .

In the sources used, no individual results or tables of the six regional leagues can be found, only participants and group winners (below in bold) are named:
