French women's football championship 1989/90

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French women's football championship 1989/90 was the 16th playing of this title since the official recognition of women's football by the French Football Association in 1970 and the first staging in the 1974/75 season . The championship was played in a mixture of league and knockout mode ; a France-wide highest league did not exist until the 1,992th

Defending champion Chaffoteaux Sports Saint-Brieuc failed this time in the quarter-finals. French champions were the women of La Vie au Grand Air de Saint-Maur , who won their sixth national championship title and set a new record that was only  to be surpassed in 2013 - then by Olympique Lyon .

Preliminary round

30 teams played a double round of points in three regional leagues, in which each club competed against every other group opponent in home and away games. The two group winners and the third placed from groups B and C reached the quarter-finals; these are marked in green in the tables below. In the event of a tie - the two-point rule applied  - the direct comparison and, if necessary, the better goal difference then made the difference .

Group A (southeast)

The FC Balma had withdrawn its women's team at short notice; no one else moved up, so that only nine teams played in group A.

Special features
All three teams from the northern group qualified for the knockout round reached the semi-finals; two of them also contested the final, which the winners of this preliminary round missed.
The two goal scorers of this final, who each became six-time national champions in their careers, were also among the most successful strikers in the history of the French championship finals. Isabelle Musset had already scored one hit each in 1976 , 1977 , 1978 and 1979 , and even two hits in
1982 . And for Nicole Abar, who had been in the victorious Stade Reims women's team with Musset in 1982 , it was the third “double” of her career in a final in 1990 after 1986 and 1987 .
