Frauenberg with the adjacent hamlet Irresheim is a district of Euskirchen in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Frauenberg lies in the northwest of Euskirchen, in the north lies the district of Oberwichterich . The town of Zülpich borders the town to the west and the town of Dürscheven to the south-west .

traffic

Frauenberg is located directly at the junction Euskirchen (110) of the A 1 running south, and to the west the B 56n runs past the village. Landstrasse 264 runs between Oberwichterich and Frauenberg. The main thoroughfare of the village is Landesstrasse 61.

Since vehicles departing from the A 1 in the direction of Zülpich had to drive through the town at the Euskirchen junction and this resulted in a considerable burden on the narrow state road 61 due to the increase in traffic, renovation work on the B 56n began on November 15, 2007. With a new connection of the B 56n to the L 61, traffic in the direction of Zülpich has been diverted to the L 61 via the southern exit of junction 110 since May 2008, and the through-town has been redesigned into a 30 km / h zone .

history

Frauenberg, Irresheim and Oberwichterich have always been very closely connected. Until the end of the 19th century they formed a “Free Glory of the Jülich Land”. Later they formed the Frauenberg mayor 's office with a few other places, which was also looked after by the city of Zülpich in an administrative union.

In the early Middle Ages, the landlords of Frauenberg were the abbots of the Imperial Abbey of Prüm . In a document from 899 Frauenberg is called "villa montis in pago Tulpiacensi" (country estate on the mountains in the Zülpicher Gau).

The church at that time was transferred in 1067 by the Archbishop of Cologne Anno II to the newly founded St. Georg Abbey in Cologne ; St. George became the church patron.

On July 1, 1969, Frauenberg was incorporated into Euskirchen .
