Friedrich Christoph Viktor Lüder von Oertzen , also Victor Friedrich Christoph Lüder v. O. (born January 4, 1773 in Neustrelitz ; † May 3, 1853 Schwedt / Oder ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the Mecklenburg-Strelitz court marshal Viktor Wilhelm von Oertzen (* March 20, 1737 - May 2, 1782) and his wife Elisabeth Ida, born von Bülow (* 1746 - September 13, 1783) from the Wedendorf-Pofrent house .

career

Oertzen was first taught at home and attended school in Bützow . On January 18, 1788, he joined the Regiment of the Guard of the Prussian Army as a private corporal . There he became a portepee ensign on November 20, 1788 and a real ensign on October 22, 1790. In the First Coalition War , Oertzen fought at the siege of Mainz , the battles near Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern, and the battles near Kettrich and Trippstadt . During that time he became second lieutenant on January 27, 1794 .

After the war , Oertzen became Prime Lieutenant on July 21, 1801, and staff captain on January 5, 1805 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Auerstedt . On the retreat he came to Kolberg and took part in the defense of the fortress.

On February 23, 1807 Oertzen was transferred to the 3rd Neumärkische Reserve Battalion (No. 8) as commander. At the suggestion of Gneisenau he received the order Pour le Mérite on July 31, 1807 for his contribution to the defense of Kolberg. On August 20, 1808, he was transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment as a captain and company commander . There he became major on March 24, 1812 . In the campaign of 1812 Oertzen fought in the battles near Baust, Ruhenthal, Eckau and Wallgrund. During the wars of liberation that followed , he fought in the battles near Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon and the battles near Königswartha, Bunzlau, Freyburg and Wartenburg . At Königswartha he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class, but was also wounded. For Wartenburg Oertzen received the Order of St. Anna II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class and for Leipzig on December 16, 1813, the Iron Cross 1st Class. On April 10, 1814, he was transferred to the II. Replacement Battalion and on October 3, 1815, promoted to lieutenant colonel and appointed battalion commander. On April 5, 1816 he came to the 4th Westphalian Landwehr Regiment as commander and was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1819 with a patent from April 7, 1819 . On March 8, 1820 he was transferred to the 13th Landwehr Regiment as commander.

His hearing loss made Oertzen unfit for field service and so he took his leave on June 13, 1825 as major general with a statutory pension . On November 17, 1825 he was given 500 thalers to finance his move to Schwedt. He died there on May 3, 1853.

General von Thielmann wrote about him in 1819: “Deserves special mention because of his notable work. His hearing has decreased a lot, but does not prevent him from fulfilling his current duties. "

Oertzen married Karoline Bernhardine Henriette von Gentzkow (* December 5, 1776 - November 9, 1850) in Potsdam on April 12, 1796 , daughter of the poet and landowner on Dewitz Johann Adolf Friedrich von Gentzkow (1731–1782).
