Friedrich Wilhelm Karl von Baumbach (born June 10, 1817 in Kassel , † December 25, 1880 in Trebnitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich was a son of the Hessian chief hunter Ferdinand von Baumbach (1786–1862) and his wife Josine, born von Hesberg (1786–1861). His sister Karoline (1823–1863) was married to the Hessian War Minister Friedrich von Osterhausen (1811–1881).

Military career

Baumbach was initially a cadet and joined the Guard du Corps of the Electorate of Hesse on August 6, 1834 as a sergeant . By the end of December 1835 he was promoted to second lieutenant and on December 9, 1842, he was regimental adjutant and accounting officer. As Prime Lieutenant he was transferred to the 1st (Body) Hussar Regiment on April 10, 1848, and took part in the campaign against Denmark the following year with the "Elector Hussars" division. Then he was promoted to Rittmeister on December 8, 1850 and transferred to his regular regiment as squadron chief . He was promoted to major on March 5, 1854, and was appointed regimental commander. In this position he rose to lieutenant colonel on November 21, 1857 and was promoted to colonel on July 16, 1865 and was appointed commander of the 1st (body) hussar regiment. Baumbach led this association during the war against Prussia in southwest Germany.

With a patent dated June 16, 1865, he was taken over into the Prussian Army on October 30, 1866 after the war and aggregated as a colonel in the 2nd Rhenish Hussar Regiment No. 9 . For a short time he was commanded from November 6th to December 12th, 1866 to the staff of the 3rd Guards Cavalry Brigade . He was then appointed commander of the 2nd Rhenish Hussar Regiment No. 9.
