Fritz Hopmeier

Fritz hopmeier (* 8. January 1930 in Wolfratshausen , Upper Bavaria , † 16th January 2014 in Beuren , Esslingen district ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

Hopmeier attended school in Esslingen am Neckar , where he also passed the Abitur. He then studied law at the Universities of Erlangen and Freiburg . He passed his state law exams in 1954 and 1959. In 1956 he received his doctorate in Freiburg. jur. From 1959 he worked as a lawyer in Stuttgart and Nürtingen. In 1962 he opened his own law firm in Esslingen. In 1981 he also became a notary in the higher regional court district of Stuttgart.

Party and offices

In 1959 Hopmeier joined the CDU. In the same year he was elected to the local council of the city of Esslingen, in 1965 also to the district council of the Esslingen district , where he headed the CDU parliamentary group for six years in 1966. In 1972 Hopmeier was elected as a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , where he initially represented the constituency of Esslingen II and from 1976 the constituency of Kirchheim . In 1980 Hopmeier was appointed deputy CDU parliamentary group chairman. In 1988 Hopmeier became the second deputy to the President of the State Parliament, Erich Schneider .

After Schneider refused to run again in the 1992 state elections, Hopmeier was elected as his successor as president of the state parliament, but at the end of the 1996 legislative period, Hopmeier also renounced another candidacy and left the state parliament. He then worked as a lawyer again.

Honors

Hopmeier received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1978, the Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1983 and the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 1988 and the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg in 1992 . He was active in several committees and associations on a voluntary basis. Among other things, he was a member of the Regional Committee of the European Union and was active on the board of the Ingrid Mayer Foundation in Stuttgart.

Hopmeier was married and has two daughters. A subsidiary continues the law firm in Esslingen with partners.
