Erich Schneider (politician, 1933)

Erich Schneider (* 2 August 1933 in Pritschenhof , then municipality of Altenberg , Oberamt Gaildorf , Free People's State of Württemberg ) is a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

Schneider was born the son of a farmer and wood cutter. He attended the elementary and technical school, which he graduated with the technical college entrance qualification. Then he began training for the higher non-technical administrative service, which he completed with a degree in administrative management (FH). Training stations were the town halls in Frickenhofen and Haubersbronn , and later the district office in Waiblingen .

In 1956 Schneider began working as a civil servant as a city inspector for the city of Gaildorf . Four years later he was elected mayor of the Burgstall community. He also headed the newly formed municipality of Burgstetten as mayor until 1979.

Party and offices

In the 1960s, Schneider joined the CDU. In 1968 he was elected as a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . In 1971 he moved into the district council of the Backnang district and later the Rems-Murr district , to which he belonged until 1989.

In 1976, he rose to become deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group, which was then headed by Erwin Teufel . After Schneider gave up his mayor's office in 1979, he devoted himself entirely to politics in the state parliament and was elected President of the state parliament in 1982 after Lothar Gaa's resignation . He was confirmed in this office after the state elections in 1984 and 1988. In the state elections in 1992, Schneider decided not to run again. He thus resigned from the state parliament. The state parliament elected one of its two deputies, Fritz Hopmeier, to be his successor .

Other offices and awards

In 1992 Schneider was elected honorary president of the Christian Youth Village Association Germany (CJD) , which is based in Ebersbach an der Fils in Württemberg . He held this office until 2008. In 2008 the CJD presented the CJD Erich Schneider Prize in honor of Schneider . In 1987 he received the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg and in 1992 the Great Federal Cross of Merit with a star and shoulder ribbon . He was and still is active on a voluntary basis in several committees and associations. From 1979 to 1983 he was a member of the Broadcasting Council of the then Süddeutscher Rundfunk . Furthermore, from 1985 he was Vice President of the Assembly of the Regions of Europe , on the Board of Trustees of the AMSEL Sponsorship Association, as a founding member of the Garden Friends Burgstetten and the surrounding area and on the regional board of the Regional Association of Garden Friends, of which he is an honorary member. In 2008 he received the Hope Bearer Prize of the Old Pietist Community Association . Schneider is the recipient of the Brenz Medal in silver . He is committed to the East African country of Burundi and has founded the Erich Schneider Foundation for Burundi .

Family and private

Schneider is Protestant, married and has two sons and a daughter.
