occupation

Fritz und Friederike is a German comedy film by Géza von Bolváry from 1952. Like other German productions of the 1950s, it hints at the ideal of a very emancipated woman in a comedic manner in the form of a military swank and ends in a traditional happy ending .

action

Mönchheim, owner of a riding school, had his ward Friederike raised to be a "Fritz" according to strictly male norms. This female Fritz can ride, fence, curse and drink. He even wins a hunting race against cavalry officer Henry de Voss.

With a heavy heart, Friederike is sent to a girls' boarding school by her uncle. There she creates all kinds of confusion and escapes disguised as a boy. She smuggles herself into a barracks of the operetta-like Sonn-Schein Army , which is equipped, among other things, with individual ladies' service. There she meets her tournament opponent again, who falls in love with her when he happens to meet her in women's clothes. He sees through her game and puts her in a number of precarious situations. So Friederike discovers her feminine side so that her lover can win her over to herself.

Production notes

The film, which goes back to an idea by producer Friedrich A. Mainz , was made in the Wiesbaden studio with exterior shots of Wiesbaden and the Rheingau . The buildings were designed by Alfred Bütow and Heinrich Beisenherz , and production management was in the hands of Heinrich Jonen and Viktor von Struve . The premiere took place on September 25, 1952 in the Europa-Filmpalast in Frankfurt am Main .

Reviews

"Updated variant of an old military swank, which, despite parodic hints, turns out to be particularly pale because it has no relation to reality."
