Fronhofen (Bissingen)

Fronhofen is a district of the market Bissingen in the Swabian district of Dillingen on the Danube . The place was incorporated into the market Bissingen on January 1, 1972. It is located four kilometers northwest of Bissingen on the ridge of the Kessel . The highest altitude is 485 m.

A large part of the Fronhofen corridor lies in the Upper Kesseltal nature reserve .

history

The name Fronhofen indicates that it was founded as a Fronhof of a noble family. There are no remains of the manor house (see also Burgstall Fronhofen ). To 1140/50, the men are handed down from Fronhofen, at which time the property came to the Lords of the High Castle, located on the west 500 meters Hohenburg sat. Fronhofen now shared the history of the Hohenburg rule , which was sold to the Counts of Oettingen before 1281 .

Religions

Fronhofen was the seat of an old parish . In the 16th century, the Catholic subjects of the Hohenburg-Bissingen rule in the towns of Thalheim , Oberringingen , Obermagerbein, Hochdorf , Tuifstädt , Warnhofen (until 1843) and Burgmagerbein came to the parish of Fronhofen .

The parish church is not the Mariahilfkirche in town, but the Michaelskirche located on the Michelsberg, 500 meters north of Fronhofen.

Architectural monuments

A listed way of the cross leads to the Michael Church of Fronhöfen, which is located on a hill to the north. The 14 stations were created by the sculptor and painter Wilhelm Joseph Niessen (* 1827 in Cologne, † 1910 in Munich) in 1880 and 1881.
