history

Like the upper Kesseltal, Zoltingen is an old settlement area, and finds from the Middle and Neolithic as well as the Bronze Age prove this. The place probably goes back to an Alemannic foundation in the 7th century. It is first handed down as "Zaheltingen" in 1262, at this time a lower noble family sat in the village, called the Lords of Zaheltingen. These are proven between 1262 and 1377, they were first in the service of the Lords of Hohenburg and then the Counts of Oettingen , who held the rule of Hohenburg-Bissingen . The Lords of Zoltingen sold their property to the Lords of Stein in 1368 and 1376 ( rule Diemantstein ). These in turn sold a part to the Lords of Westerstetten zu Dunstelkingen , who sold this part of the property to the Counts of Oettingen-Oettingen in 1532. Their property in Zoltingen was administered by the Office Hochhaus. Since the state sovereignty had been with the Ellwangen Monastery since time immemorial , the place became part of Württemberg in 1802/03 through the secularization of the Prince Provost of Ellwangen . Through the border treaty of 1810, which regulated the exchange of territories, Zoltingen finally came to Bavaria . It was initially administered by the Nördlingen Regional Court and in 1852 by the Bissingen Regional Court .
