The Football Oberliga Nord 1977/78 was the fourth season of the Oberliga Nord . The champions were OSV Hannover with five points ahead of VfL Wolfsburg . In addition to these two teams, 1. SC Göttingen 05 qualified as third directly for the promotion round to the 2. Bundesliga . The fourth Holstein Kiel had to play qualifying games against the Westphalian runner-up 1. FC Paderborn . Kiel was finally able to prevail and rose.

The HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst , of VfB Lübeck , the VfB Oldenburg and the amateurs of Werder Bremen qualified for the Amateur Championship , at the Lübeck as the best North team reached the quarterfinals. OSC Bremerhaven was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga . The SV Meppen and VfL Pinneberg promoted to the division Lower Saxony or Verbandsliga Hamburg from. Bremer SV and 1. FC Phönix Lübeck rose to the Oberliga Nord .
