Gabriel Mendy
Gabriel Mendy CSSp (born April 9, 1967 in Lamin , West Coast Region , Gambia ) is a Gambian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Banjul .
Life
Gabriel Mendy attended St. Peter's Technical and Senior Secondary School in Lamin. Then he joined the religious community of Spiritans and completed the postulate and novitiate from 1985 to 1987 . From 1987 to 1990 Mendy studied philosophy in Nsukka . This was followed by a one-year pastoral internship in the parish of Holy Trinity in the Kenema diocese in Sierra Leone . 1993 acquired Gabriel Mendy at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh the Bachelor in Philosophy. From 1993 to 1997 he studied Catholic theology at the Spiritan International School of Theology in Enugu , Nigeria .
Gabriel Mendy made his perpetual profession on August 31, 1996 and received the sacrament of ordination on November 15, 1997 . From 1997 to 1998 Mendy served in the parishes of St. Peter , St. Theresa, and St. Martin in Freetown . He then taught at the seminary in Kenema until 2002 . He was also pastor of the parish of Holy Trinity . In 2002 Mendy became a pastor in Pendembu . From 2004 to 2009 he studied again at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he received his doctorate in systematic theology in 2009 . He then served a year as a parish vicar in Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in New York City .
Since 2010 Gabriel Mendy was Professor of Ecclesiology , Fundamental Theology and Liturgy at the Spiritan International School of Theology in Enugu. He has also been Vice Rector of this institute since 2011 .
On November 30, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Banjul. The Archbishop of Freetown , Edward Tamba Charles , donated him episcopal ordination on February 3, 2018 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop Emeritus of Banjul, Robert Patrick Ellison CSSp, and the Bishop of Sekondi-Takoradi , John Bonaventure Kwofie CSSp. The inauguration took place a day later.
