Galgenau is around 550  m above sea level. A. between the two municipal capitals on the right in the Feldaist valley , between the Jaunitz , which flows into the Feldaist at Freistadt, and the Galgenaubach in the south, 1½ kilometers south of the city center of Freistadt and 6 kilometers north of Kefermarkt.

The two localities comprise almost 40 buildings with around 120 inhabitants, the majority of which are in the Kefermarkt part, and extend over a good 4 kilometers. The local area also includes the Pührmühle , the Krumpmühle , and the Parzer downstream directly on the Feldaist.

history

The village name is literally the Köpfstätte , at today's municipal boundary, is also an old place of execution as in court Hölzl at the Feldaist further south, the one Weinberger indicates court facility. The gallows can also be found on an engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer (mid-17th century).

In 1938, at the time of the Anschluss , when large municipalities were created everywhere in Austria, the municipality of Freistadt was enlarged in the south and southwest, which also brought the former Zeißer districts in the north, which, like Trölsberg, belonged to Zeiß, to the city.

Galgenau waterworks

The B 310 Mühlviertler Straße runs through the locality and construction on the S 10 Mühlviertler Schnellstraße was completed until November 2014.

Here is the city's largest waterworks, the Freistadt Agricultural School , the Freistadt State Hospital and Nursing School and the FM Küchen company (Freistädter Möbelfabrik), two major employers in the area.

The Freistädter Weihteich is a good fishing water.
