Ganz Schön Feist was a German music group from Göttingen . The three band members described their style as "PopAcappellaComedy". A large part of their music was supported by instrumental accompaniment. The trio has performed on cabaret stages in Germany , Italy , Austria and Switzerland since the late 1980s . In France they occasionally appeared as "Jean-Claude, Jean-Jacques and Jérôme". In early 2013, the band withdrew from the tour business.

development

The early years

At the end of the 1980s Mathias Zeh (C.) from Göttingen founded a duo with Hans Helmers that soon bore the name Ganz Schön Feist. When Helmers got out, first Rainer Schacht and later Beo Brockhausen joined Mathias Zeh. Right from the start, the group combined humorous texts with challenging chanting, which was often performed a cappella . However, Ganz Schön Feist did not develop into a pure vocal trio. The distinctive voice of Mathias Zeh was supported in most of the songs by both singing and various instruments played by Brockhausen and Schacht. In addition to instruments such as guitar , bass , saxophone or mandolin , the musicians also used instruments such as the Djembé or the Korean zither Gayageum and numerous others.

The first single from Ganz Schön Feist, Jealousy , was released in 1989. The chance to turn the hobby into a profession came with winning the German Rock Prize in 1991 and a CD production that went with it . Several singles followed (including a cover version of the Rio Reiser title König von Deutschland ), an EP and a live album recorded in 1993 . The band initially performed at free festivals and the old town festival in Göttingen. They celebrated their first successes with the song It's good if you know what you want , with which they appeared in the television shows The Great Price and A Kettle Buntes, among others .

Growing awareness

In 1995 Ganz Schön Feist recorded their second full studio album Pille Palle . However, this was initially not produced in large numbers, as no publisher could be found for the album - so it initially remained with a very limited edition. In the following years Ganz Schön Feist had various TV appearances, for example at the German Satirefest under the direction of Volker Pispers and the RTL Comedy Gala at the side of Dieter Nuhr , Hennes Bender and Hagen Rether .

So Roof Music as a label and Sony Music or Universal as a distributor finally became aware of Ganz Schön Feist and signed them. The first version of the album Gänseblümchen was released here in 1997 . The Erlangen-based fun metal band JBO discovered the single You just want to fuck , which was released in 1997, and released this song on the 1998 compilation J.BO presents: And Fun thereby (The ultimate party sampler) . He was just like the parody on the Bernd-Clüver -Hit The boy with the harmonica , boy oh boy , in retrospect in the track list of daisies added. In 1998, thanks to the growing popularity, Pille Palle was released on Roof Music. In addition, the compilation Schöne Feister Ganzer was created, which contained the titles of the first five publications that were no longer available at the time, as well as three previously unreleased songs. In 2000 the album Open Your Consciousness was released . In contrast to previous albums, Open Your Consciousness was produced very elaborately. Therefor were u. a. Studios in Frankfurt am Main and Los Angeles (USA) used. You know, last summer was released as the second single after the first, Bleib schmeidig .

2001 saw the release of the second live album In Echt (live) , which already contained three songs that appeared two years later on the fifth studio album Irgendwoanders . No more singles were released from this album, as these have only sold poorly after the experience of recent years. These two albums were no longer released by Sony Music, but by CD distributor Indigo: The path led away from the major distributor and back to the roots of the early years. Somewhere else they were accepted again in Göttingen. In terms of sound, however, the album was still similar to Open Your Consciousness .

At this point in time, Ganz Schön Feist had been on tour almost continuously for over 10 years, where they regularly performed well-known cabaret stages such as B. Tränenpalast ( Berlin ), Schmidt's Tivoli ( Hamburg ), Lustspielhaus ( Munich ), Pantheon ( Bonn ) and Unterhaus - Mainzer Forum-Theater ( Mainz ). In addition to the regular program, a series of concerts called "Gutes von Gestern" (Gutes von Gestern) was put on, with titles from the early years often desired by the audience.

Change of cast and new style

In 2003 the band performed at the Pop Meets Classic 2003 event in the Göttingen Lokhalle. Here they presented some of their songs live together with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra . The artistic direction of this event was taken over by Christoph Jess from the Göttingen a cappella formation Seven Up.

Brockhausen, Schacht and Zeh began work in 2004 on a new program called Hüa! should wear. There were differences between Brockhausen and the other band members. As a result, Brockhausen finally separated from Ganz Schön Feist in the summer of 2004 in order to devote himself to other musical projects in the future.

After the separation, Christoph Jess, who was quickly trained, took Brockhausen's position. The studio album Hüa! appeared in May 2005 with the new line-up. It was distinguished by the changes in its arrangements compared to the previous albums. Almost all of the pieces of music were recorded in the live setup, no complex production was required. Ganz Schön Feist performed again at Pop Meets Classic in 2005 and 2006 . In January 2006 the live program Gutes von Gestern was continued. At the beginning of June 2007 Ganz Schön Feist recorded their new album Aphrodisiakum live in the Lokhalle in Göttingen. These recordings went on sale in August 2007. The step towards the purist staging of the pieces was compared to Hüa! implemented even more consistently, since (apart from one piece) no studio recordings were made.

In 2008 Beo Brockhausen released his first solo album entitled Wiedergeburt .

In July 2009 the studio album Klassentreffen! , recorded again in the studio. Once again, there was a wide range of instruments, as was common in earlier albums. A year later the group released a live recorded "Best of" double CD entitled The yellow from egg , on the occasion of the band's 20th anniversary.

Withdrawal from the tour business

the fat (2017)

After a ten-month farewell tour, Ganz Schön Feist withdrew from active tour life in January 2013. They gave their last concert on January 13, 2013 in their hometown of Göttingen. Mathias Zeh and Rainer Schacht announced at the farewell concert that they would continue to make music as a duo in the future. In 2014, the two musicians released their first CD “Versuchslabor” under the name Die Feisten . Christoph Jess works as a teacher and musical director of “Pop Meets Classic” in Göttingen and is also a member of the a cappella formation “Seven up”.
