history
Noble bearers of the name von Gebsattel have been mentioned more often in Lower and Middle Franconian documents since the 13th century . For the first time, the family is proven in 1240 with Arno de Gebesedele . Three lines already existed in the 14th century: one to Trennfeld , one to Acholshausen and a third with the nickname Rack von Burgbernheim or Rack von Uffenheim . The last two were already extinct in the 16th century. The separating fields line later in Sondheim and Lebenhan sat in Lower Franconia, was the ancestral castle in 1901 Gebsattel in Rothenburg ob der Tauber acquire the Konstantin von Gebsattel by Gabriel von Seidl in the style of Neo-Renaissance rebuilt and partially rebuild left.
From the 16th to the 18th century, the lords of Gebsattel belonged to the imperial knighthood in the knight canton of Rhön-Werra of the Franconian knightly circle because of the possession or partial ownership of, among others, Haselbach , Burglauer , Lebenhan and Leutershausen . At the beginning of the 16th century they were also enrolled in the knightly canton of Baunach and during the 17th century in the knightly canton of Odenwald . Because they belonged to the imperial knighthood, they were registered in Bavaria in 1816 with the barons' class of nobility .
The family gained great influence, especially in the church, but also in the military. From the family came Johann Philipp von Gebsattel ( Prince-Bishop of Bamberg (term of office from 1599 to 1609)), Daniel Johann Anton von Gebsattel (from 1748 auxiliary bishop in Würzburg ) and Lothar Anselm von Gebsattel (from 1818 Archbishop of Munich-Freising ). In addition, high officers also emerged from the family: General Lothar Augustin Daniel von Gebsattel and the generals of the cavalry , Konstantin von Gebsattel and Ludwig von Gebsattel . The latter was in command of the Royal Bavarian III. Army Corps during the First World War .
