action

The story of the film begins with a flashback to the time 10 years ago: Lars and Martin are two close friends, young students who enjoy their lives to the fullest. People celebrate, drink alcohol in excess, and whistle after the women. Back in the current time, the plot continues and shows Martin in particular, who has the feeling, now at the age of 30, to be in a crisis of meaning. While he has been unemployed for half a year and was left by his girlfriend Nina, his friend Lars is now a successful lawyer and is engaged to the attractive Dani. Martin is so far behind with his rent payments that he is threatened with eviction from his apartment.

After several unsuccessful applications, which repeatedly failed due to his non-existent qualifications, Martin finally decides to finish his then discontinued studies. But there are hurdles in his way: His studies have been too long so that he would have to catch up on all courses if he cannot prove a “particular hardship”. To do this, he persuades his neighbor's boy, Josh, to credibly demonstrate to the professor at the university that Martin is his father and to look after him instead of his mother while he was growing up. The plan works, Martin is admitted to the exam, but breaks it off again to visit Josh at an acting performance and encourage him from the audience to encourage his role.

So Martin not only gets closer to Josh, but also to his mother. The two enter into a love affair and Martin decides to become a writer and will soon even publish his first novel.
