Georg Tidl

Georg Tidl (born July 19, 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist , historian , trade unionist , social democratic local politician , popular educator, author of historical non-fiction books and writer . He is the son of the middle school professor and author Marie Tidl ( 1916-1995 ) and the agricultural engineer Johann Tidl, two resistance fighters against the Nazi regime . Tidl has two children, her mother is the resident gynecologist and multiple national champion in table tennis Gabriela Smekal .

Life

After secondary school and several studies, he concentrated on academic training as a historian , specializing in contemporary history . He received his doctorate on January 31, 1974 under Ludwig Jedlicka at the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna with the subject: Austria's socialist secondary school students 1918–1938 . After doing some scientific work at the Institute for Contemporary History, Georg Tidl moved to the main television science department at Austrian Broadcasting , where he switched to domestic politics in the early 1980s .

After the candidacy of Kurt Waldheim for the post of President George TIDL researched accordance with the order from the spring of 1985 whose biography. During Waldheim's war years , he encountered inconsistencies in his own biographical information. So TIDL was right at the beginning of the presidential election campaign to demonstrate that Waldheim in 1941 in the Ukrainian Pripet Marshes at least once under SS - command had fought. At that time, the SS and Wehrmacht fought for a small village, which was of strategic importance. As a result of this research, Georg Tidl was transferred from domestic politics to the archive and from then on was no longer allowed to work for any political editors.

Until his retirement he held several positions in various ORF editorial offices. For the last ten years he was editor-in-chief of Heimspiel, the program newspaper of the ORF Radiokulturhaus in the Wiener Funkhaus and head of the ORF Radio Museum with its stationary exhibition in the Funkhaus, a well-stocked depot and traveling exhibitions, especially in Vienna and in the eastern federal states.

In addition, Tidl published and produced numerous works on historical topics, television documentaries and features in the field of contemporary history, historical, political and literary contributions also in magazines such as FORVM , designed exhibitions, supervised the estate of Alfons Petzold and the incorporation of the worker's literary estate into the inventory to the Austrian National Library and came out with publications on the local history of the Vienna district of Meidling , but also with excursions to the theater and cabaret:

After joining the ORF, Georg Tidl was also involved in the ÖGB , which he served in several functions; most recently as national chairman of the specialist group MultiMedia and Information Services in the communications union GPF . After retiring from active professional life, he was elected honorary chairman of this specialist group. Georg Tidl ran successfully as a works council member with his own list of names on ORF several times. His involvement in the ÖGB prompted functionaries of the Viennese SPÖ to put Georg Tidl on the candidate list of his residential district Meidling. From March 2001 to 2010 Georg Tidl was a district councilor in the culture commission in Meidling. Tidl lives and works in Vienna and since 2012 again in Spittal an der Drau.

Awards

  • Professional title Professor , awarded by the Austrian Federal President on March 4, 2009.
  • Silver Merit of the State of Vienna on January 17th, 2012.
  • Honorary chairman of the federal specialist group for multimedia and information services of the communication union GPF in the ÖGB. Appointed in March 2013 in recognition of many years of union activity.
