Christoph Emanuel Georg Bauer , von Bauer since 1891 (born August 12, 1823 in Kassel ; † January 1, 1903 there ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 8th field artillery brigade .

Life

origin

Georg was the son of the Electorate General of Hesse, Philipp Bauer (1775-1851) and his wife Henriette, née von Lengerke (1790-1875). His brothers Karl (1816–1896) and Wilhelm (1819–1890) also became Prussian major general.

Military career

Bauer attended high school and the cadet house in Kassel. On June 25, 1841 he was employed as a porter ensign in the artillery regiment of the Electorate of Hesse and at the end of July 1841 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant . During the campaign against Denmark in 1849 he took part in the bombardment of Fredericia and rose to prime lieutenant in May 1849 . From mid-October 1850, Bauer worked as an adjutant at the General Command in Kassel. After being assigned to the Cadet Corps and the General Staff, he was used from August 4, 1851 to April 21, 1852 as an adjutant in the staff of the Commander-in-Chief. In mid-March 1853 he was transferred to the General Staff and a year later he was promoted to captain . With the appointment as battery chief , Bauer returned to the troop service on June 9, 1855 and at the end of November 1865 he rose to major .

After the lost war against Prussia and the annexation of the Electorate , Bauer joined the Prussian Army on October 30, 1866 and was assigned to the Pomeranian Fortress Artillery Regiment No. 2 . At the beginning of November 1866 he was appointed commander of the 1st division in Stettin . With the promotion to lieutenant colonel , Bauer took over the III. Division of the Pomeranian Field Artillery Regiment No. 2. In this capacity he took part in the battles at Gravelotte and Champigny , the sieges of Metz and Paris and the battles at Fresne and Pontarlier in 1870/71 during the war against France .

Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, Bauer received the character of a colonel on August 18, 1871 after the peace treaty was signed . With his appointment as commander of the Hanoverian Field Artillery Regiment No. 10 , he was granted the patent for his rank on March 5, 1872 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was transferred to Koblenz on June 9, 1874 as commander of the 8th Field Artillery Brigade. In this position he advanced to major general on March 22, 1876 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves , in mid-September 1877 . Under awarding of the Crown Order , he was on 12 July 1879 II. Class with star board for disposition made.

After his departure , Kaiser Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on September 19, 1891 .

Bauer married Luise Ruhl (1833–1908) in Kassel on February 12, 1854. The following children were born from the marriage:
