from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerhard Voss (born March 22, 1903 in Rostock , † December 9, 1993 in Schwerin ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor and lecturer in church history , most recently in Schwerin.

Live and act

Voss grew up as the son of the later Mecklenburg-Schwerin state superintendent Friedrich Voss and grandson of the church council Friedrich Voss ( Sanitz ) in Rostock. He attended the large city school in Rostock , where he obtained his school-leaving certificate in 1921 .

Voss studied Protestant theology in Erlangen , Halle / Saale and Rostock . After completing his studies, he was first tutor to Landgrave Chlodwig von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld in Herleshausen near Eisenach . From 1927 he attended the preachers' seminar in Schwerin, after the second exam he did an internship at the welfare office of the city of Cologne and at the end of 1928 he was appointed vicar in Althof near Bad Doberan.

He was ordained on November 11, 1928, making him pastor in the eleventh generation on his mother's side since the Reformation in Mecklenburg, Kurpfalz and Lippe . His brother Martin, who was three years older than him, also became a pastor and later a state superintendent in Wismar and Parchim .

From November 1930 he was parish administrator in Klaber and from November 1938 pastor in Pokrent . During the church struggle , Voss was part of the Kessiner brotherhood . The brotherhood and its gatherings in the Teterow area, where people met every month in shifts in the rectory, meant a lot to him.

On July 17, 1931, he married Gerda Fuckel, the daughter of a pastor from Cologne with Mecklenburg roots. On December 1, 1940, he became a soldier in the Wehrmacht and returned home from a prisoner-of-war camp in August 1945 .

From 1945 to 1970 he served as pastor at the Paulskirche Schwerin .

From 1948 on, Voss was a lecturer in church history at the reopened seminary in Schwerin for 25 years. He dealt intensively with the settlement history of Mecklenburg and the becoming church in the state.

Voss founded together with the theology professors Gottfried Holtz and Erhard Peschke in 1958 the still existing working group for Mecklenburg church history at the University of Rostock . At that time it was the work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg and is now the work of the Mecklenburg Church District. From 1960 to 1974 he headed the working group after Peschke left. He conducted well-attended conferences in Schwerin (1960), Neustrelitz (1962), Güstrow (1964), Ribnitz (1966), Bad Doberan (1968), Ludwigslust (1970), Malchin (1972) and Wismar (1974).

In the last years of his life, Voss lived withdrawn in a new apartment in Schwerin-Lankow. He celebrated the diamond wedding on July 17, 1991, his 90th birthday on March 22, 1993 and the 65th anniversary of ordination on November 11, 1993. The commemorative article in the Mecklenburgische Kirchenzeitung (MKZ) pleased him. Shortly afterwards, on December 9, 1993, he passed away.
