Girolamo Agucchi (born January 15, 1555 in Bologna , † April 27, 1605 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal .

biography

Girolamo Agucchi was born on January 15, 1555 in Bologna to Gian Giorgio Agucchi and Isabella Sega. His mother was the sister of Cardinal Filippo Sega while Giovanni Battista Agucchi was his brother. He studied at the University of Bologna where he graduated in law.

After graduating, he became a notary at the Holy See . On 15 April 1592 it appointed Pope Clement VIII. To apostolic prothonotary and later to Zwischennuntius the County of Flanders . In 1595 he became a trainee lawyer for the Apostolic Signature . On September 20, 1596, he became the lieutenant governor of Fermo , and on November 1, 1597, he became the chief steward of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini . With Cardinal Aldobrandini he went to Ferrara in 1598 and became secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Religious in 1600. He was provost of Ss. Simone e Giuda in Novara and educator (or director) of the Archispedale di Santo Spirito in Saxia in Rome.

In the consistory of June 9, 1604, Pope Clement VIII appointed him cardinal. On June 25, 1604 he received the red cardinal's hat and the titular church of San Pietro in Vincoli . He took part in the conclave of March 1605 , in which Pope Leo XI. was chosen.

Girolamo Agucchi died on April 27, 1605 in Rome - on the same day as the Pope, as his epitaph expressly notes - and was buried in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli. This is the epitaph on his grave:
