Glendale is a city in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona , United States , with a population of nearly 250,000 (2016 estimate, US Census Bureau ). The urban area has a size of 144.4 km². Glendale borders Phoenix to the east and is part of the Valley of the Sun , the metropolitan area of Phoenix.

According to the United States Census Bureau , Glendale has a total area of ​​145 km², of which 144 km² is land and 0.3 km² (= 0.13%) is water . Glendale is located in the basin of the Colorado River .

Glendale is north of Interstate 10 , west of Interstate 17, and east of Arizona State Route 101 . US Highway 60 also runs through the city and cuts the city area diagonally from the north-west to south-east of the Glendale road network, which is otherwise oriented in a north-south direction. In downtown Glendale it meets the intersection of Glendale Avenue and 59th Avenue. The Glendale population was 75.54% White , 4.70% Black or African American , 1.45% Native American , 2.74% Asian , 0.13% Pacific Islander , 11.97% said other races belong to and 3.47% named two or more races. 24.84% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
