The Gmina Branice is a rural municipality in the powiat Głubczycki in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the village of the same name ( German Branitz , Czech Bránice ) with about 2300 inhabitants.
geography
The community borders on the urban and rural communities of the district town of Głubczyce (Leobschütz) and Kietrz (Katscher) as well as the Czech Republic . Part of the border is formed by the Opawa (Oppa, Opava) . The 328 meter high Plechowa Góra (Blechberg) is located in the municipality .
history
In 1874 the municipality belonged to the rural municipalities of Branitz and Michelsdorf and the manor districts of the same name in the Branitz district .
In the years 1936 to 1939 some of the place names were changed. In 1945, as a result of World War II , the area came to Poland. The German population was largely expelled or had fled . Some of the new residents have been relocated from eastern Poland . Branice and Kietrz were reclassified in 1972 from the Archdiocese of Olomouc to the Archdiocese of Breslau .
From 1975 to 1998 the municipality belonged to the smaller Opole Voivodeship .
Partner municipality
A small border traffic was set up in 1996 to the partner municipality Úvalno (Lobenstein) in the Czech Republic across the border .
