Good Kid, MAAD City ( spelling good kid, mAAd city ) is the second music album by the American rapper Kendrick Lamar . It was released on October 22, 2012 on the music labels Top Dawg , Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records . good kid, mAAd city reached number 2 on the US album charts. The pieces The Recipe , Swimming Pools (Drank) and Poetic Justice were released as singles.

In the United States, good kid, mAAd city debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 . In the first week, 241,000 units were sold. By July 2013, over 950,000 CDs had been sold in the United States alone. The album was continuously represented in the top 50 of the US album charts from its debut until at least July 2013. Lamar's second album was also able to position itself at number 2 in the charts in Canada. In addition, the album entered the charts of various European countries. It was ranked 74th in Germany, 16th in the United Kingdom, 38th in Switzerland, 57th in France and 72nd in the Netherlands. With 23rd place good kid, mAAd city was also represented in the Australian charts.

At the Grammy Awards in 2014 was Good Kid, MAAD City in the category Best Rap Album nominated, but lost The Heist by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis .

The e-zine Laut.de rated good kid, mAAd City with five out of a possible five points. The editor Stefan Johannesberg describes Lamar's second album as a “ real concept album ”, which pulverizes the “ half-baked musical life plan ” on The Black Album by Jay-Z. Although Kendrick Lamar selected “ a few cooler beats ” on his debut album and dealt with political issues, good kid, mAAd city is “ the real hip hop classic that in a few years [...] will be in the same breath with Boom Bap-G -Funk and Dirty South called “. At the end of December, the editorial team voted the album number 1 on their list of the “25 Best Hip Hop Albums of 2012”.
