Grand Hotel is an American television series directed by Brian Tanen and is based on the Spanish television series of the same name , which aired between 2011 and 2013. The series is about a family-owned hotel in Miami Beach . The series started on June 17, 2019 on the US network ABC and was discontinued in October 2019 after the first season.

During a devastating hurricane, the cook Sky Garibaldi disappears without a trace after she has discovered explosive information about the hotel manager Santiago Mendoza. She was able to leave a message for her brother Danny before she was knocked down by an unknown figure. Danny applies to the hotel as a waiter to solve the mystery of his sister's disappearance.
Santiago Mendoza and his second wife Gigi plan to sell the family hotel Riviera Grand in Miami Beach to Chinese investors, much to the displeasure of Alicia and Javier, Stangiago's children from his first marriage to Beatriz. The deal falls apart at the last minute when buyer Byron learns that his future wife Caroline, Gigi's daughter, has cheated on him. Since the hotel had been in financial trouble for years, Santiago borrowed money from the seedy businesswoman Teresa Williams. To make sure Santiago paid his debts, he had to hire Mateo, who works for Teresa. Mateo starts an affair with the maid Ingrid, who becomes pregnant by him. He wants her to abort the unborn child, but Ingrid doesn't. After an overheard conversation between Gigi and Santiago about his son Javier, Ingrid makes the decision to put the child on Javier. Since Javier has the reputation of being the womanizer in the hotel anyway, he believes her that he is the child's father. The two get closer and become a couple. This breaks Ingrid's best friend Jason Parker's heart because he is secretly in love with her. Gigi finds out that Ingrid's child is not from Javier, but from Mateo. She confronts Ingrid with an ultimatum and this confesses the truth to Javier. He then leaves Ingrid and falls back on his drug and alcohol addiction, which he had to overcome a few years ago after he lost his leg in high school. Danny learns that his sister Sky also worked as a drug dealer and Javier was her customer. Ingrid, in turn, loses the child a short time later.
Danny meets Alicia at the hotel and is immediately fascinated by her. The two get closer, but Danny doesn't tell her the truth, not even that he has a girlfriend. Since Danny doesn't want to have a relationship with Alicia at first, she gets together with her former classmate Oliver, who works for the competing Finn Hotel. Because of this, the relationship fails after a short time and Alicia and Danny get together. However, when Danny's ex-girlfriend Heather Davis shows up at the hotel, Alicia learns the whole truth. At first, Danny is disappointed, but helps him in his search. Jason also finds out that Sky is Danny's sister and helps him with his research. The two discover that Sky had a secret relationship with Yoli, Gigi's second daughter.
Mateo and Santiago also know more about the disappearance of Sky and are blackmailed by Nelson with it. Mateo confronts and kills him to keep the secret. When Teresa shows up at the hotel and wants to get involved in the business, Santiago and Gigi look for a way to get rid of them. They discover that Teresa is trafficking in human beings . The two blow up Teresa, who escapes with Mateo. Mateo, who finally wants to free himself from Teresa's clutches, shoots her. Santiago thinks this is the way Mateo is going on, but Mateo blackmails him with his knowledge from the night of Sky's disappearance. He's got the video footage showing Gigi smeared with blood. Meanwhile, Gigi learns that her ex-husband Felix is back in town and has contacted his daughters Carolina and Yoli. The sister smuggled Felix into a secret room in the hotel. Gigi pretends to trust Felix again, but only wants his money and tricked him. When Alicia and Javier find out about the secret room, memories of their mother Beatrice come to light. So it comes out that Beatriz under a bipolar disorder suffered and not as alleged died of a heart attack, but suicide committed. She left a suicide note that was stolen by her friend Gigi.
In time, Danny will discover the truth. His sister Sky found Beatriz's farewell letter in Gigi's safe and stole it. In the letter, Beatrice wrote that she knew of the affair between her husband and the hotel maid, Helen Parker, called Mrs. P, and that her son Jason was Santiago's son. Gigi suppressed the letter because she was afraid that Santiago would give his inheritance to Jason and neglect her daughters Carolina and Yoli. When Sky blackmailed Gigi with her knowledge, an argument broke out during the hurricane. Sky was beaten down by Malcom, Helen's husband, and passed away. Malcom had suspected for years that Jason was not his son and overheard a conversation between Helen and Gigi, which gave him certainty. Because he wanted to protect his family, he killed Sky. Danny does not deliver him to the police because Malcom has lung cancer and dies a little later. When Santiago learns the truth, he is disappointed in his wife Gigi because he always believed that Gigi killed Sky.
Danny and Alicia get back together while Mateo is fired by Santiago and swears revenge. Santiago also wants to take care of Jason, which Helen disapproves of because she doesn't want to tell her son the truth yet. He also wants Jason to be included in his will, which Gigi doesn't like. The series ends with Santiago being gunned down in the catacombs of the hotel.

On November 21, 2017, it was announced that ABC was developing a US adaptation of the Spanish television series Gran Hotel . The pilot script for Grand Hotel was to be written by Brian Tanen, who also served as executive producer alongside Eva Longoria , Ben Spector, Oliver Bachert and Christian Gockel. The production companies involved in the pilot include ABC Studios and UnveliEVAble Entertainment. On February 2, 2018, ABC ordered an official pilot episode.
The central leading roles were cast with Roselyn Sánchez and Demián Bichir , while Longoria will take on a guest role. The pilot was filmed in March 2018 at Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Miami , Florida . On May 11, 2018, a first season of ABC was ordered to be broadcast for the 2018/2019 mid-season. This was no longer shot in Florida, but in a replica in Los Angeles , California . The exterior shots that were seen during the season continued to be shot at Fontainebleau in Miami. One month after the season finale was broadcast, the series was discontinued.
