La Guancha is a municipality on the island of Tenerife . It is about 500 meters above sea level between Los Realejos and Icod de los Vinos .
La Guancha got its name from the Spanish explorers under Alonso Fernández de Lugo , who were the first to see an aborigine (Spanish: La Guancha ) draw water from a spring. When she discovered the soldiers, she disappeared into the laurel forest. The captain was so struck by her beauty that he named this place La Guancha.

The main economic activity is concentrated in the service sector, due to its proximity to the tourist town of Puerto de la Cruz . There is also agriculture, small industry and trade.
The Canary Islands are famous for their traditional embroidery and La Guancha also has a well-developed and impressive House of Art with an embroidery center.
