Guteborn is a district of the eastern Thuringian municipality of Ponitz in the Altenburger Land . The place emerged only after 1784 on Ponitz district not far from the main town.

Guteborn goes over the Saxon-Thuringian border into the agglomeration of Meeranes , but belongs, historically grown, to the Thuringian Ponitz. The place is on a hill with a drain into the Pleißental .

At the intersection of the route from Leipzig to Zwickau ("Hohe Straße"), which today roughly corresponds to the federal highway 93 and the road from Schmölln to Glauchau , an inn was first built on Ponitzer Flur in 1784. In the years that followed, a forge and several houses were built around the inn. The place name that the Gasthaus Zum Guten Born actually bore was given to it in honor of Countess Born . The place was historically referred to as New World or Oberschönhayn , the neighboring settlement Schönhain is also in the corridor of Ponitz. Historically, the Guteborn settlement was located in the triangle of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (Ponitz, Schönhain, Guteborn) with the Schönburg rulers (Meerane) and the royal Saxon office of Zwickau (parts of Waldsachsen ). Right next to the "Zum Guten Born" inn, the "Zu den 3 Schwanen" inn (called "Schwanefeld" since 1830) with a post office and relaxation area was built in the Meeraner area of Schönburg . After the Saxon state had acquired land at the intersection, it built a customs house for customs and accis collection and a road keeper's house on the border of the districts of Ponitz (Saxony-Altenburg) and Meerane (Schönburgische Herrschaft or Kingdom of Saxony) in 1831 Oberwaldsachsen), in which only Saxon officials lived, d. H. Royal highway takers, royal highwaymen, a royal rifleman, a royal postilion. Since 1825 a post station with changing horses was set up on the Meeraner side. On November 15, 1858, due to the opening of the Glauchau-Schönbörnchen-Gößnitz railway, the last stagecoach ran through "Schwanenfeld". In 1909 the customs post was closed. The "Schwanfeld" inn has developed into a four-star hotel today. It is a curiosity to this day that it is partly in Thuringia (Guteborn in the Ponitzer Flur) and partly in Saxony (Meeraner Flur) and the state border goes right through the house.
As a settlement in the Ponitzer Flur, Guteborn initially belonged to the Wettin district office of Altenburg , which was in the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826) when Guteborn was founded. When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place became part of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . After the administrative reform in the duchy, Guteborn, as a district of Ponitz, belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the settlement belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was incorporated into the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it became part of the municipality of Ponitz in the district of Altenburg . During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Guteborn and the municipality of Ponitz came to the newly founded Schmölln district in the Leipzig district , which had belonged to Thuringia as the Schmölln district since 1990 and which became part of the Altenburger Land district during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 .

The oldest buildings on the road to Gößnitz are Altenburg half-timbered farms, but mostly plastered. On the road to Ponitz, the Buttermilch, some villas from the Wilhelminian era have been preserved.
Economy and Infrastructure
The federal highway 93 runs west of the place. A net central warehouse and a logistics center were located on this in the designated industrial area. There is also a chocolate factory and the Villa Il Mio Bowling Bar .
