HLM is one of the 19 municipalities (Communes d'arrondissement du Sénégal) of Dakar , the capital of Senegal . The name indicates that the municipality was built as a project of the Société Nationale des Habitations à Loyer Modéré (SNHLM) . HLM is the usual French abbreviation for Habitation à loyer modéré (living at moderate rents - social housing ).

geography

HLM is located in the interior of the Cap Vert Peninsula . The city district extends long and narrow in a south-north direction along the west side of the A1 over three kilometers and a width of around 500 meters.

The municipality has an area of ​​1.7 km². The districts of Grand Dakar , Biscuiterie and Dieuppeul-Derklé in the west, Grand Yoff in the north, Hann-Bel Air in the east and Gueule Tapée-Fass-Colobane in the south are adjacent clockwise .

The city district is divided from north to south into the districts HLM 1 to HLM 6 . In the north the district Cité des eaux forms the end, in the south the districts Cité port, Cité douane and HLM Nimzatt .

The city district is almost completely built up and densely populated.

Infrastructure and culture

In the south, between HLM Nimzatt and Colobane, there is a junction with Autoroute 1 , which leads from the city center to the new Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport . Likewise in the north between Cité des eaux and Grand Yoff . The central waterworks of the Dakar metropolis, called Usine des eaux de la SDE, is located at this traffic junction right next to the A1 .
