Habovka (Hungarian Habovka , Polish Habówka ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1,382 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Tvrdošín , part of the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Skorušinské vrchy mountainous region , not far from the Western Tatras in the valley of the Studený creek at the confluence with the Blatná . The center of the village is at an altitude of 730 m nm and is 17 kilometers from Tvrdošín .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1593 as Habowka and was founded under Wallachian law . He belonged to the estate of the Arwaburg .
In 1778 there were 350 inhabitants, in 1828 121 houses and 793 inhabitants. Because of the poorly fertile soil, linen and shingle production were the main sources of income, and residents often had to look for work in other counties.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1,352 inhabitants in Habovka, of whom 1,342 were Slovaks, two Czechs and one Russian; one resident was of a different ethnicity. Six residents made no statement. 1299 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, eleven residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and three residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Orthodox Church; three residents were of other denominations. 15 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 18 residents has not been determined.
