Zábiedovo (until 1946 in Slovak "Zábidovo"; in Hungarian Zábidó ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 868 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Tvrdošín , part of the Žilinský kraj and belongs to the traditional Orava landscape .
geography
The village is located on the edge of the Skorušinské vrchy mountain range in the valley of the Zabiedovčík brook . The highest point of the municipality is the Mikulovka mountain with 1193 m nm. The center of the village is at an altitude of 670 m nm and is six kilometers from Trstená and seven and a half kilometers from Tvrdošín .
The village Hámričky , which was incorporated in 1882, is also part of the municipality , downstream of the main town.
Neighboring municipalities are Trstená in the north, Brezovica in the east, Habovka in the south and Tvrdošín in the west.
history
Zábiedovo arose, like many other places in the Orava region, in modern times according to Wallachian law and was first mentioned in writing in 1567 as Zawydow , the flowing stream, however, as Zawoda as early as 1371.The newly created village belonged to the territory of the Arwaburg and was under administration of vomitators. In 1626, about 200 people lived in Zábiedovo. During the Kuruc uprising, the village was almost completely destroyed. In 1828 there were 121 houses and 748 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and cattle herders.
The place Hámričky was founded in 1607 and was named after a former iron hammer mill. In 1828 there were 14 houses and 70 inhabitants.
The place in Arwa County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 805 inhabitants lived in Zábiedovo, of whom 802 were Slovaks and one each was Polish and Czech . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .
800 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and three residents supported the Evangelical Church AB. Two residents were non-denominational.
