Hans Burchard Otto von der Betten (born April 24, 1769 in Hanover ; † November 27, 1838 at Gut Nieder Ochtenhausen near Bremervörde ) was an official in the service of the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , the Duchy of Oldenburg and the Kingdom of Hanover . Most recently, he held the title of Privy Councilor and was successively Oberlanddrost of Oldenburg, as well as (Provincial) President in Aurich and Landdrost in Lüneburg .

Career

After attending the Bützow Academy , he studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1787 to 1789 and then entered the civil service of the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . He initially worked as an auditor at the court court in Stade and was appointed court judge as well as judicial and consistorial councilor in 1795 . After the French occupation of the electorate in 1803, he moved - like several other Hanoverian officials - to the state service of the Duchy of Oldenburg and in 1807 was appointed Oberlanddrosten of the Duchy by Oldenburg's regent Peter Friedrich Ludwig . From 1810 to 1811 he also served as President of the Military Commission. When Oldenburg was incorporated into the French Empire in February 1811, he conducted the final negotiations on the details of the acquisition with the French agent Keverberg and then resigned from the Oldenburg civil service.

From 1823 he officiated as Landdrost in Lüneburg and was retired in 1831 with the title of a Privy Councilor. He spent the last years of his life on the Nieder Ochtenhausen estate north of Bremervörde, which he had acquired in 1802.

Since July 23, 1795 von derdecks was married to Cäcilie geb. von Gruben (June 19, 1774 - December 3, 1841). The marriage came from the son Christian Friedrich (born September 19, 1797, † October 22, 1888), who later became a captain in the Hanoverian military.
