Hans-Günther Sohl

Hans-Günther Sohl (born May 2, 1906 in Danzig ; † November 13, 1989 in Düsseldorf ) was a German industrial manager.

Life

The son of the lawyer and ministerial official Georg Sohl († 1937) had two brothers (Erich and Werner).

In 1917 the family moved to Berlin , where Hans-Günther Sohl passed his Abitur in 1924 . On April 1, 1924, he began training as a mountain assessor in the Prussian Mining Office Wroclaw . This ended in 1932 and Sohl became an industrial engineer at the Mathias Stinnes colliery in Essen. As a student, he was involved in the Academic Association of Mallets and Iron, today Agricola Academic Association . The connection as a profession-specific circle gave him support in starting his career and in other positions. Sohl joined the NSDAP in 1933 . In the same year he moved to the raw materials department of Friedrich Krupp AG , which he took over as head in 1935. From October 1, 1941, he replaced Hermann Wenzel as director of the United Steel Works . Due to the resignation of Ernst Poensgen , he was appointed deputy chairman of the board of the United Steelworks under Walter Rohland in November 1943 . As early as 1942, Sohl was appointed military economic leader of the Reichsvereinigung Eisen.

Imprisonment after 1945

With the end of National Socialism, Sohl was arrested on December 1, 1945 based on the Central Registry of War Crimes and Security Suspects (CROWCASS) , initially taken to an interim camp in Iserlohn and interned at the Bad Nenndorf interrogation center on December 4, 1945 . About six months later Sohl came to the former main camp VI A , the now of the British Army of the Rhine -run Civilian Internment Camp No. 7 , known as Camp Roosevelt . The last stop was the - formerly Stalag VI-K (326) - internment Eselsheide in Paderborn , from which he was released on May 17, 1947th

Professional career from 1947

At the turn of the year 1947/48 he was brought back to the board of the United Steelworks, Sohl and Hermann Wenzel were responsible for the unbundling (company structure) and dismantling (reparation) of the United Steelworks and contributed to the reorganization of the German heavy industry. In 1953 he became CEO of Thyssen AG (one of the successor companies of the United Steel Works ). With the takeover of the majority in the Rheinstahl group in 1973 - shortly before Sohl's age-related replacement by his successor Dieter Spethmann - Thyssen became the largest steel group in Europe and the second largest in the world. Sohl was chairman of the steel trade association from 1956 to 1969 and chairman of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) from 1972 to 1976 .
