Hardcore (Original title: Hardcore Henry ) is a Russian - American action film directed by Ilya Naishuller from 2015 . The film was filmed entirely in the subjective attitude of the main actor.

action

The recently deceased Henry wakes up one day as a cyborg in an airship over Russia's capital Moscow . The entire film is shown from his perspective from now on.

Henry is unable to speak and his left arm, as well as his left leg, has been amputated. A woman named Estelle fits him with superhumanly strong, robotic prostheses and hands him a ring, saying that she is his wife, to lead him into the next room. In this two scientists try to reproduce Henry's ability to speak. However, during the adjustment process, an alarm goes off and heavily armed men storm the room. After his mercenaries, the white-haired telekinet Akan enters the room and demonstrates his powers by throwing a scientist into the air and then brutally murdering him.

Estelle can use this moment, however, to activate an agonizing alarm tone , which irritates the attackers so much that she and Henry can escape through a network of ventilation shafts. In the course of this it turns out that the research institute is on an airship floating over Moscow. Estelle and Henry squeeze themselves into an escape pod, which hits a freeway due to the excessive load. A little later dark transport vehicles arrive, from which Akan's mercenaries jump, kidnap Estelle and push Henry off the expressway. There Jimmy takes Henry in his car and tells him that his robotic parts will soon fail due to a lack of energy, which would result in his death. He must therefore procure a “new source of energy”. While driving, Jimmy is killed by a shot in the head and the vehicle has an accident. Passers-by trying to save the injured Henry are ruthlessly shot by his pursuers.

After a long chase on foot, Henry manages to escape into a bus. Jimmy suddenly appears again, but now looks like a homeless person . He gives Henry an address at which he should murder a man named Dimitry and remove a fuel cell from his chest in order to save his own life with this energy source.

A few moments later, another of Akan's henchmen arrives, who sets the bus on fire with a flamethrower , and Jimmy also goes up in flames. As his body crumbles, he cheerfully calls out to Henry that he "will be in touch". After Henry can kill the attacker, he looks for the address given by Jimmy. There he meets Dimitry, who is liquidated by a sniper. Henry uses this opportunity to tear open his chest with his bare hands and remove the fuel cell.

On his escape, Henry is called again by Jimmy, who orders him to a brothel. Here Henry meets him while having intercourse with several prostitutes. Since Jimmy has consumed cocaine by the hands, he is too excited to change Henry's fuel cell. Suddenly, however, a second, even-tempered Jimmy appears who makes the change. However, Henry does not have time to recover as Akan and his henchmen storm the brothel. Akan murders a frightened client with relish in front of Henry's eyes and throws cocaine-consuming Jimmy down a ventilation shaft with Henry, whereby Jimmy's body is shattered.

Surrounded by a multitude of corpses, however, another incarnation of Jimmy immediately approaches Henry, this time dressed like a hippie and consuming marijuana with relish . After torturing a seriously injured henchman Akans, he reveals that Estelle is being transported in a convoy of vehicles. Together with two heavily armed women, Henry and Jimmy chase the convoy on a motorcycle team . After destroying several vehicles, Henry can board the truck in which Estelle is being held. After brutally stabbing the guards present, Akan appears in person and apparently beats Henry to death with a baseball bat . His henchmen drag the lifeless body of Henry into a forest, where they begin to shower him with earth, only to be shot by Jimmy and one of his companions. While these help Henry regain his strength, artillery shells suddenly hit the forest and shred Jimmy and his companion.

Henry is almost run over by a battle tank , but is able to board it and cut the crew up with a machete . Then he is called again by Jimmy, who this time guides him to an abandoned hotel. Here Jimmy, this time appearing as a sniper in a ghillie suit , shows him access to a secret laboratory and then reveals himself completely:

The real Jimmy is a paraplegic genius who remotely controls various cloned incarnations from his wheelchair at will. He once worked for Akan and was supposed to breed an army of loyal cyborg soldiers for him ; But when these did not meet Akan's requirements, Akan broke Jimmy's spine, so that he can only think of cruel revenge. However, it turns out that Henry unwittingly sent a signal to Akan, revealing the location of Jimmy's secret laboratory. Akan announces his imminent arrival on a screen, laughing maliciously.

In the course of the ensuing siege of the laboratory, Jimmy surrenders to almost all of his incarnations, who sacrifice themselves in a brutal battle to protect their master’s body, which is ailing in a wheelchair. Finally, Jimmy blows up his laboratory to destroy all of Akan's henchmen. Then Henry, Jimmy and one of Jimmy's avatars travel to the skyscraper in which Akan resides in order to attack it in turn.

As they storm the entrance hall, Jimmy's wheelchair body is hit by shrapnel in the throat, so that, although everyone was able to escape in an elevator, he has to say goodbye to Henry for good. Henry then fights his way alone in Akan's office, where Akan's office reveals to him that he has "fed" an army of cyborg soldiers with today's experiences of Henry, so that they, all convinced that they have to save the love of their lives, now with Superhuman hatred will cremate any place Akan's choice, be it Paris or the White House .

Henry can kill a particularly large cyborg soldier that Akan is chasing him and insert his fuel cell into his own chest, which gives him a special boost of energy. After he injects himself several times with adrenaline in the course of the plot , he can brutally dismember , shoot , burn or otherwise murder all other cyborg soldiers in a long fight .

However, Akan finally throws Henry to the ground with his telekinetic abilities and reveals to him that Estelle is his wife, not Henry's, and is making common cause with him to deceive Henry and make him the teacher of the other cyborg soldiers. In a rage, Henry wraps barbed wire around his fists and tears Akan's hands to pieces, only to dismember his whole body and jump with parts of his head into the helicopter with which Estelle is trying to escape. When Henry, full of anger and sadness, shoots at Henry, the latter raises his metallic hand so that the bullets ricochet off him and hit Estelle, who falls from the helicopter. At first she is able to hold on to a ledge of the helicopter and seemingly save it, but Henry crushes her hands with a bulkhead so that she falls to her death, whereupon the film ends.
