Heavysaurus is a German heavy metal band founded in 2017 , which is based on the concept of the Finnish band Hevisaurus , which was founded in 2009 . A Spanish-speaking band has existed in Argentina since 2012 under the name Heavysaurios .

history

The concept of Heavysaurus goes to the established in 2009 music project of Thunderstone - drummer Mirka Rantanen back of a child-friendly metal band for his then five-year-old son, who at this time for Metallica , Guns n 'Roses and Iron Maiden interested, so a little later the band Hevisaurus should arise.

After a few years, the music label Sony Music decided to implement the concept on an international level, so that in 2017 the German counterpart was launched under the name Heavysaurus . Frank Ramond , who already Udo Lindenberg and Roger Cicero worked, translated the Finnish songs into German and Michael Voss the band Mad Max set to music this under the pseudonym Mr. Heavysaurus as a singer . Christof Leim embodies the character “Riffi Raffi” as guitarist , keyboardist “Milli Pilli” is represented by Valentin Findling, bassist “Muffi Puffi” by Jürgen Steinmetz from the Sons of Seasons and drummer “Komppi Momppi” by Philipp Klinger from The New Black .

On May 18, 2018, the first album Rock'n'Rarr was released on Europa Kinderwelt , which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment .

Heavysaurus played in the Werner race in 2018 at Hartenholm airfield and in December in several German cities, with appearances on the MPS in Dortmund and in 2019 in Bückeburg . In the summer the band could be seen at the Kieler Woche and the Rock of Ages .

Music and concept

According to Dominik Rothe, who discussed the album Rock'n'Rarr for the online portal Metal.de , the music is reminiscent of the earlier anime soundtracks for series such as Pokémon or Digimon . Real professional musicians such as Michael Voss from Mad Max hide behind the pseudonyms . While Heavysaurus Tag (Dinolied) is a cover version of So ein Schöne Tag by Tim Toupet with a modified text that has been converted to metal , playing dinosaurs ... is a reinterpretation of the children's song Three Chinese with the double bass , the piece Rarrr achieves heavy metal epic á la Manowar during heavy Twister to Talk Dirty to Me by Poison recalls.

Heavysaurus also use symphonic metal borrowings in their music , which could have been found in a more bombastic production at Kamelot or Avantasia . In a short discussion on the website of Westfälische Nachrichten , the music includes strong riffs and solos , a pumping bass, swirling drums and catchy lyrics. Musically, the music is reminiscent of AC / DC and Steel Panther .

With the exception of the ten-minute introduction , which is designed as a radio play , the songs are between two and four minutes long, which benefits the children's attention spans. The radio play is told well and in a way that is child-friendly, has an amusing narrative style and focuses specifically on the characters - four dinosaurs and a dragon - which makes it very interesting. The lyrics are kept simple with a view to the target group, whose age is between three and ten years.

As with the Finnish original project, attention is paid to a child-friendly volume during performances by the German offshoot, so that this is a maximum of 85 decibels . The five musicians appear in dinosaur costumes in their music videos as well as at live concerts and autograph sessions.
