The Roman Catholic pilgrimage church Heilig Blut am Wasen is a late-Gothic , later Baroque-style hall church in the Heilig Blut district of Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria . It belongs to the parish Heilig Blut (Rosenheim) of the Rosenheim district church in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

History and architecture

The Heilig Blut pilgrimage chapel was built around the end of the 15th century. The pilgrimage reached its climax around 1610/11, which is why the chapel had to be extended with a nave . After the secularization in 1802, the demolition of the church was requested around 1807, but it was preserved at the request of the population. In 1871 the church was renovated.

The church was built starting with the choir around 1508, the nave followed in 1608, the sacristy in 1652. The choir and the upper part of the tower were baroque in 1686/87 by Johann Mayr the Elder from the house. After 1992 the church was in a desolate condition, so a restoration was carried out in 1996–1999. In June 2011, the roof was damaged in a thunderstorm and the penetrating moisture damaged the stucco ceiling . The church had to be closed for several months for restoration and was able to reopen in December 2011.

The building is a wide hall building on four axes with a strongly drawn-in, three-sided closing choir and a south tower with a dome , the ground floor of which is closed off by ribbed vaults . The nave is inside with a flat ceiling closed from 1760 about a circumferential groove, the choir with a barrel vault with lunettes over composite - pilasters .

The heavy choir stucco was modeled by Giulio Zuccalli in 1687 with cartouches , leaf frames, acanthus , laurel branches and fruit pendants. Stucco half-figures of the apostles are arranged above the apostle crosses , the three foremost pairs date from around 1687, the others made of wood were added in the 19th century. The ceiling paintings in oil on canvas in the choir were created by Anton Vicelli in 1686/87 and show the Last Supper and the Coronation of Mary . The stucco and paintings in the nave were done in 1948. On the west wall there are remains of frescoes from around 1615 showing a cross and an Ecce homo representation.

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is the high altar from around 1690 with a mercy seat from around 1520, which is close to the style of the master von Rabenden . The figures of Maria and Johannes were added by Blasius Maß around 1690. In the blind windows of the choir there are canvas paintings by Vicelli from around 1687, which show the transfiguration of Christ and Abraham's sacrifice . There are also figures from 1690 of Saints Peter and Paul . A three-part confessional behind the high altar also dates from this period.

The side altars were created in 1764/65. On the left altar there is an oil painting of the Descent from the Cross from around 1615 and a Man of Sorrows from around 1500 as well as angels from around 1690. The right altar shows an oil painting of the Immaculate Conception from 1694 and figures in the altar extract of Saints Korbinian and Benno from 1764/65 by Ignaz Sturmbeck.

Well chapel

The brotherhood altar was probably put together around 1680 from a large-scale epitaph from 1624 and an altar from 1657 based on a design by Vicelli. Seven mannerist paintings by Hanns Oberhofer from 1624 are arranged above a triumphal arch-like niche with Saint Sebastian and angels . They show the shedding of Christ's blood: the crucifixion as a copy after Tintoretto , the circumcision , the Mount of Olives scene, the crowning of thorns , the flagellation, the undressing and the nailing of the cross.

The pulpit was created by Sebastian Laufhueber in 1762/63 and decorated with figures by Sturmbeck. The choir arch cross dates from around 1610 and the Way of the Cross from around 1760. In 1953, a new organ with 15 stops was installed by the Schuster company from Munich.

Well chapel

The well chapel to the north of the church, dating from the 17th century, was built by Johann Mayr the Elder. The octagonal building with pilasters and a clapboard lantern dome was stuccoed in 1950. In the center there is an octagonal well shaft with a well grotto and an Ecce Homo depiction from around 1690.
