Holy Cross (Dungelbeck)
The Heilig Kreuz Church is the Catholic church in Dungelbeck , a district of the district town of Peine in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the parish " To the holy angels " based in Peine, in the Braunschweig deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church named after the cross of Jesus is located on the Escheberg, about 400 meters outside the village, on the federal road 65 in the direction of Schmedenstedt .
history
As a result of the Second World War , the number of Catholics in the area around Peine, which has been Protestant since the Reformation, increased considerably due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire .
Around 1960, the parish was founded, initially under the patronage of "Christ the King". Their church services initially took place in the "Escheberg" forest management room.
After the restaurant was closed, its buildings were acquired by the church and today's Holy Cross Church was built. The forest management room was demolished, the former inn is still standing today. The foundation stone of the church was laid on September 27, 1969, and its consecration on December 12, 1970 by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen .
Since November 1st, 2006 the church belongs to the parish "To the holy angels" in Peine, the independent parish "Hl. Cross ”in Dungelbeck was canceled in this context. In the last few years before the merger, the church had already received pastoral care from Peine. The church has also been part of the Braunschweig deanery since November 1st, 2006. Before that she belonged to the Deanery Peine, which was dissolved at that time.
Architecture and equipment
The church, which is around 79 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by Josef Fehlig from the diocesan building department, designed as a precast concrete church with a free-standing, cross-crowned bell tower.
The main nave of the church offers 162 seats, plus 8 seats in the Marienkapelle open to the main nave. The sanctuary is dominated by a freely hanging crucifix and pictures with crucifixion scenes behind it. The four evangelist symbols are shown at the four ends of the crossbars . The equipment includes, among other things, statues of the baby Jesus with the monogram IHS on his chest and the Holy Family , a pipe organ , a baptismal font and 14 stations of the cross . A confessional is set into the back wall of the church. In the Lady Chapel there is a statue of Mary, in front of which sacrificial candles can be placed.
A number of other churches of this type were built in the Diocese of Hildesheim, for example in 1969 in Altenwalde and Sudmerberg , 1970 in Meckelfeld and Poggenhagen , 1971 in Afferde , Hohegeiß , Luthe , Meine , Schwanewede and Winsen (Aller) , 1972 in Gifhorn , Ronnenberg , Stederdorf and Wittingen , 1974 in Vorwerk , 1975 in Dransfeld , Münchehof and Rodenberg , and 1976 in Rhüden .
