The Church of the Holy Family is a Roman Catholic parish church in Hangard , a district of the Saarland district town of Neunkirchen . She bears the patronage of the Holy Family . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

The church was built between 1899 and 1900 according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Hector ( Saarbrücken-St. Johann ). Master builder and contractor Franz Emmerich (Neunkirchen) was responsible for the execution.

Since 1989 the church has undergone numerous restorations . The restoration measures of 1989 concerned the windows , those of 1991 the heating and the wooden floor , and those of 1993 the chancel , where a new ambo was installed. Since the 2000s, the entire church building has been subject to restoration measures inside and out.

Architecture and equipment

The church building was built as a hall church with three naves in the neo-Gothic style. It is a so-called step hall or pseudo-basilica , the exterior of which gives a basilical impression, but in contrast to a basilica does not have a window zone, a so-called upper aisle , between the central nave and the lower aisles . Rather, the separate aisle roofs end almost directly under the eaves of the central or main nave. The exterior of the church is divided into the bell tower , the three-aisled nave and the three-sided, straight-closing choir .

The church's equipment includes the high altar with an oversized altarpiece from 1921, which was later expanded to become a war memorial altar . Four half-relief pictures of the reredos show scenes from the life of Jesus. The people's altar in front of the high altar was made from parts of the communion bench .

Other items of equipment are carved wood figurative representations of the four evangelists , which were formerly at the pulpit and are now attached to the left side wall of the chancel , a new ambo from 1993, and the confessional from the time it was built.

Above the right side altar is a depiction of the death of St. Joseph . Above a figure of Mary above the left side altar is a depiction of the handing over of the rosary to Dominic by the artist workshop Mrziglod ( Tholey ).

The church windows date back to the Wilhelmine era and depict the Holy Family as a family of craftsmen.
