The Heinkel He 172 was a German training and training aircraft from the Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke .

development

It was built in 1935 as a further development of the Heinkel He 72 , one of which was equipped and tested with a Townend ring and wheel fairings in November 1934 . A speed 10 km / h higher than with a conventional He 72 could be achieved. In 1935, these improvements made two prototypes called He 172, otherwise the structure was identical. On October 3, 1935, Kurt Heinrich carried out the maiden flight with the He 172 V-1 (WNr. 1848, D-EEPO ). The He 172 V-2 with the serial number 1849 received the registration D-EEHU . There was no series production.
