Heinrich Karl Christoph Bronsart von Schellendorf (f) (born November 16, 1803 in Braunsberg , † November 2, 1874 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Heinrich came from the Bronsart noble family, first mentioned in 1339 . He was a son of the Prussian major Ewald Christoph von Bronsart (1761-1807), who was killed in the siege of Danzig , and his wife Anna, née Schwiderowius (1770-1849). Since 1823 the family of Heinrich von Bronsart carried the name "Bronsart von Schellendorff". The spelling of the syllable -dorf (f) in the name of the family also varies in contemporary sources (-f / -ff) and was handled inconsistently by different family members.

Military career

After visiting the Berlin Cadet House , Bronsart was transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on July 28, 1821 as a Second Lieutenant . In 1825 he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion and attended the General War School from 1827 to 1830 . In mid-July 1836 he joined the 2nd Landwehr Brigade as an adjutant ; from April 1840 he worked in the same capacity in the 2nd division . On August 14, 1842 he became a captain and came on September 18, 1844 with a patent from November 29, 1841 as a company commander in the 1st Infantry Regiment . On March 31, 1846 he came to the 5th Infantry Regiment and on March 21, 1848 he became major and commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 5th Landwehr Regiment. On March 12, 1852, he came to the 3rd Infantry Regiment as a battalion commander ; he was also promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1853 . On June 10, 1856, he was transferred to the Wesel fortress as commander , and on July 17, 1856, he was assigned à la suite of the 3rd Infantry Regiment. On October 15, 1856 he was promoted to colonel and on August 27, 1857 appointed commander of the 37th Infantry Regiment. On May 19, 1859 he came to Danzig as a commander and received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a ribbon and was promoted to major general on March 31, 1859 . On June 3, 1860 he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On May 13, 1861, he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Brigade as commander , and on January 9, 1864 to the 10th Division . On June 25, 1864, he was promoted to lieutenant general and appointed director of the military and economic department in the war ministry, as well as president of the examination commission for intendatural officers and a member of the board of directors of the Great Military Orphanage in Potsdam .

On January 19, 1866, Bronsart von Schellendorff received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War , he was appointed General Director of the Army on May 23, 1866 . After the war, he was put up for disposal on December 18, 1866 with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves with a pension . He lived with his wife in Hanover, where he died on November 2, 1874.

Heinrich Bronsart von Schellendorff married Antoinette de Rège (1810–1873), a daughter of the businessman Daniel Louis Drège from Kassel and Marianne Christine Diederich , on April 19, 1829 in Berlin . The couple became the first parents of the well-known Bronsart von Schellendorf (f) family of officers , who produced numerous Prussian military officers during the imperial era . They had twelve children, including:
