Henri Schoeman (born October 3, 1991 in Vereeniging ) is a South African duathlete and triathlete . He is a four-time national champion (2013-2016) and third in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Career

In his youth, Henri Schoeman was active in swimming and his older brother Riaan Schoeman (* 1989) was also active as a triathlete and started as a swimmer in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2010 Commonwealth Games .

In March 2016, Henri Schoeman became national champion in the triathlon short distance for the fourth time in a row (Olympic distance: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

2016 Summer Olympics

He finished third at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and thus achieved the first ever Olympic medal for South Africa in triathlon. He started in Rio together with Richard Murray (4th place), Mari Rabie (11th place) and Gillian Sanders (23rd place).

In September he finished fourth in the 2016 Triathlon World Championship in Mexico by winning the last race of the World Cup racing series ("Grand Final").

Doping allegation 2016

At the end of 2016, a group of hackers revealed documents indicating that Henri Shoeman had given a positive doping test ( prednisolone , a banned glucocorticoid ) at the Olympic Games . The International Triathlon Union (ITU) said it was informed of the allegations against Henri Schoeman and has opened an investigation. In January 2018 he was acquitted of all allegations by the ITU.

In March 2018, he won the first race of the 2018 World Championship racing series on the sprint distance in Abu Dhabi .

He is trained by his father Joe Schoeman and lives with his partner in Durban .
