Hermann Otto I of Limburg-Styrum
Hermann Otto I of Limburg-Styrum (born September 3, 1592 at Styrum Castle ; † October 17, 1644 in Bergen op Zoom ) was Count of Limburg by descent , Count von Bronckhorst by heir and Lord of Borculo , Gemen , Lichtenvoorde and Styrum . From 1640 to 1644 he was Vogt of the Vreden Monastery .
Life
Hermann Otto I. von Limburg-Styrum was the eldest son of Count Jobst von Limburg-Styrum and Countess Maria von Schauenburg and Holstein-Pinneberg (1559-1616), daughter of Otto IV. Von Holstein-Schaumburg .
He fought on the side of the States General and in 1623 experienced the defeat in the battle of Stadtlohn at the side of the great Christian von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . In October 1628 he and his troops entered the Angermund office to attack and plunder the city of Ratingen .
He is buried in the church in Borculo . With the help of the Elector of Brandenburg, his son Count Adolf Ernst tried unsuccessfully to assert himself against the diocese of Münster and to bring his subjects back to the Catholic faith. Hermann Otto's aunt Agnes von Limburg-Stirum inherited the rule of Gemen . In 1644 she transferred the estate to him. After the death of Count Hermann Otto in 1644, the estate was divided among his three sons: Bronckhorst and Borculo received Count Otto, Gemen received Count Adolf Ernst and Styrum received Count Moritz.
Not only the members of the House of Limburg-Stirum descend from him, but also a large number of monarchs, such as the King of Belgium , the Grand Duke of Luxembourg , the Prince of Liechtenstein and also the members of the House of Habsburg .
