Location in Saxony-Anhalt

Hohenberg is a residential place in the district of Hohenberg-Krusemark the municipality Hohenberg-Krusemark in the district of Stendal , Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Hohenberg, a manor settlement, the southern part of the Hohenberg-Krusemark district in the municipality of the same name, is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Osterburg (Altmark) on the Balsamgraben in the Altmark . The Elbe Cycle Path leads north over a path to Schwarzholz , the former village of Polkritz.

Neighboring places are Krusemark , immediately adjacent in the south, Bertkow and Schladen in the west, and Schwarzholz in the northeast.

history

In the Landbuch der Altmark of 1427 the place is listed as Hoenberge . Further mentions are 1456 Dorf to homberge , 1506 to hemborch , 1608 Hemberge , 1687 Homberge , 1804 it is called Dorf und Gut Hohenberg .

In the visitation farewells of 1542 it is said of the income of the parish of Krusemark: "a mark from the chapel of the village of Hohenberg", elsewhere it is called Hoenberg . As early as 1581, however, there was no longer a church in the village. Remains of the foundations of the chapel no longer exist. Ernst Haetge wrote in 1938: “The upper part of a late Romanesque baptismal font was set up on the estate and used as a flower container. The baptismal font has now been brought back to its old place in the church in Krusemark. "

Today's Parkstrasse is reminiscent of the park with a pond and manor house in Hohenberg, which can be clearly seen on the measurement table from 1882. Before 1842 the buildings of the manor were "newly and beautifully rebuilt". At the beginning of the 20th century Hohenberg was a place "with an elegant castle, a magnificent park". Nothing of this has been preserved. The manor house was demolished between 1945 and 1963.

Origin of the place name

The name refers to an elevation in the lowlands of the Wische .

Incorporations

On October 17, 1928, the Hohenberg estate was merged with the Krusemark estate and the rural communities of Hohenberg and Krusemark (all located in the Osterburg district) to form a single rural community of Hohenberg-Krusemark.

Hohenberg was then only listed as a place to live in local directories.
