Location in Saxony-Anhalt

Kirchpolkritz is a residential area in the Schwarzholz district of the Hohenberg-Krusemark municipality in the Stendal district , Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Kirchpolkritz, officially also Kirch-Polkritz or just Polkritz , is a remaining settlement with a church 4½ kilometers northeast of Hohenberg-Krusemark, 2½ kilometers west of the Elbe in the Altmark. The Seegraben Iden, formerly also called Hufergraben or Geestgraben, flows to the north of the settlement. The Elberadweg leads along a sandy path through a fir forest via Tannhäuser to Schwarzholz, the former village of Polkritz.

Neighboring places are Tannhäuser, Schwarzholz and Schweinslust in the west, Rosenhof in the north, Osterholz in the east and Altenzaun in the southeast.

history

In 1157 Polkritz is considered a village called Pulcriz mentioned when Albrecht the Bear the Ilsenburg Abbey gave the village. The village had market rights in 1188. In 1204 Count Albrecht von Arneburg confirmed this donation. In 1238 a place is mentioned as juxta Polkertz (translated: located near Polkertz ), when Count Siegfried von Osterburg assigns villages and properties in the Altmark, with which he had previously been enfeoffed by the St. Ludgerikloster Helmstedt , to Abbot Gerhard von Werden and Helmstedt . In 1535 a yard at the church in Polkritz passed from the monastery to Woldeck von Arneburg.

In 1745 there was the village of Polkritz with 5 farmers, 9 cottages, a kätner, jug, mill, and a farm in Kirch Polkritz . The former village of Polkritz is today's Schwarzholz . Further mentions are 1687 Polckeritze and 1804 Dorf and Gut Polckritz .

In 1834 the manor was dismembrated (dissolved) by the owner Filion. A remnant remained. Colonel a. D. von Chamisso, the eldest son of Adelbert von Chamisso and the poet Sophie von Sichart , whose sister Alice von Knoblauch, née von Sichart, lived on the neighboring Gut Osterholz. Sophie von Sichart lived in the bay room of the stately house in Polkritz, which is surrounded by tall trees. Under the title “Sagen und Mären”, she handed down some legends from the region.

Origin of the place name

The place name is interpreted from poluk, pulko for small field and ritz, rece for watercourse . Thus, polkritz stands for Geestgraben .

prehistory

The group of burial mounds between Kirchpolkritz and Schwarzholz is undated.

Incorporations

On April 1, 1939, the communities Polkritz and Schwarzholz merged to form a community with the name Schwarzholz. The Polkritz, Hoher Küsel, Kirch-Polkritz and Tannhäuser residential areas belonged to the municipality of Polkritz. The former village of Polkritz is marked with black wood on maps after 1939.

religion

The Protestant Christians from Kirchpolkritz belonged to the parish Polkritz, today's parish of Schwarzholz, which formerly belonged to the parish Polkritz near Hohenberg.

The Evangelicals from Kirchpolkritz have belonged to the parish of Walsleben with the parish of Schwarzholz since January 1, 2005 and thus to the parish of Königsmark in the parish of Stendal in the provost district of Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Culture and sights

  • The evangelical village church was probably built around the middle of the 12th century. In the 16th century the field stone tower was replaced by a brick tower. The church is known for its epitaphs .
  • Some memorial plaques and an epitaph from the church were transcribed in the online project Memorial Monuments.
  • In the churchyard there is the local cemetery and a classical tomb for Johann Friedrich von Kläden.

Legend of the Knight Wellborn

Wellborn was a manor near Polkritz that was located on the site of the later Wellborn Vorwerk, which was located west of today's Welborn forest , one kilometer southeast of Kirchpolkritz. Hans Rehberg describes the evil knight Wellborn in the year 2000 and refers to Werner Brückner and the tradition of the "Mären und Sagen".

The Knight Wellborn owned a castle that was in the field of the Altenzaun manor. He loved the beautiful Fräulein von Schwarzholz, who probably didn't want to have anything to do with his love . So he stole it and wanted to bring it to his castle. But he failed to achieve the same thing. He saved himself from his pursuers with his noble booty in the church in Polkritz. When the church was forcibly opened, the beautiful young lady was gone forever and the knight lay dead in front of the altar.
