Previous model Honda NSR125R

The Honda CBR 125 R is a light motorcycle sold by the Honda company from 2004 to 2017 . It is fully disguised and is one of the super sports cars with a displacement of 125 cm³.

Models

2004 to 2007 (JC 34)

Model number 34, manufactured in 2006
JC 34, manufactured in 2006

The CBR 125 R with the factory code JC34 replaced the two-stroke NSR 125 R in the Honda model range. In accordance with Honda’s environmentally friendly goal of stopping the production of two-stroke engines , this motorcycle is now equipped with a single-cylinder four - stroke engine with a displacement of 125 cm³ and a carburettor . The engine cooling was carried out as water cooling , which at the time was rather untypical in the area of smaller displacements.

The low price (2004: € 2690) and the possibility of using the CBR 125 on European roads at the age of 16 with an A1 driver's license made the motorcycle very popular with the young target group. In 2004 it was the best-selling 125 class motorcycle in Germany . This is also one of the most important reasons for Honda's leading position in this segment at the time. For example, in 2006, Honda had the largest number of new registrations in Germany in the motorcycle segment up to 125 cm³.

2007 to 2010 (JC 39)

JC 39, manufactured in 2008

The CBR 125 R with the factory code JC 39 was available since May 2007. It has a revised engine - the carburetor was replaced by the PGM-FI injection system and thus complied with the Euro-3 emissions standard by replacing the uncontrolled catalytic converter with a three-way catalytic converter . The revision made it possible to slightly reduce consumption while maintaining the same performance.

The new look in the shape of the Honda CBR 600  RR is characteristic, the similarity of which is particularly noticeable in the light mask and the shape and color of the paintwork. The design of the display instruments in the cockpit has also been changed slightly.

2011 to 2017 (JC 50)

JC 50, manufactured in 2016

From 2011 to 2017 the new Honda CBR 125 R, factory code JC 50, was available. This revised model has a completely new design with new cockpit, revised chassis, new exhaust, wider full fairing and wider tires on new rims, which it with the Honda CBR 250 R shares. The tank volume has been increased from 10 to 13 liters and the injection electronics have been modified for a greater range. An anti-lock braking system was not available for this motorcycle, as was the case with its predecessor models.

Since 2012, the rule that motorcycles with 125 cm³ displacement must be throttled for people under the age of 18 has not been in force in Germany, which has had a significant impact on the sales figures of this displacement class. Alongside the Yamaha YZF-R 125 , the KTM RC 125 and the Aprilia RS4 125 , the Honda CBR 125 R is one of the most popular 125 cc in the 4-stroke super sports class.

Reception and attitude

The production in a plant in Thailand and the use of inexpensive manufacturing materials (such as the tires from the relatively unknown Thai manufacturer IRC) and the use of parts from other Honda models (e.g. the speedometer and the speedometer dial) have made it possible to keep the sales price since 2004 to be kept low.

The response to the two-seater in the trade press was varied compared to the model variants. The low consumption and the high level of suitability for everyday use were often praised. On the other hand, the appearance of the models until 2011 was rare, due to the slim silhouette and the narrow tires. These could, however , be exchanged for wider tires, for example from Bridgestone , without registration. Wider tires have been part of the standard equipment since 2011 and the facelift made the motorcycle look much wider.

As part of the Euro 4 requirement for new registrations from 2017, the CBR 125 R will no longer be offered in Europe. There are no official statements about the further production of the CBR 125 R. The presentation of the new Honda CB 125 R at EICMA 2017, Honda's new hobbyhorse in the field of 125 cc light motorcycles, speaks in favor of discontinuing production .
