successor Honda NC 750 X

The NC 700 X is a partially faired motorcycle from the Japanese vehicle manufacturer Honda . The motorized two-wheeler advertised as a crossover bike was presented on November 9, 2011 at the EICMA in Milan and sold from April 2012. The displacement of the two-cylinder engine is 670 cm³. The sales name NC stands for New Concept , the internal model code is RC 63.

concept

Market surveys commissioned by Honda have shown that motorcycles are driven more than 90% of the time at speeds below 140 km / h and engine speeds below 6000 rpm. For this reason, Honda has developed an affordable motorcycle designed for these areas of use.

The NC 700 X has the same platform as the Naked Bike NC 700 S (RC 61) and the large scooter Honda NC 700 D Integra (RC 62). In order to reduce development and production costs, Honda Motors adopted the modular principle known from the automotive industry and created three different models, whose engine, frame, fuel tank and controls are largely the same.

The model CTX 700, which has been available since 2014, has a special position. Honda implemented a cruiser on the well-known NC platform. This model is only available with the dual clutch transmission , which is otherwise available at an additional cost .

Motorization

The NC 700 X and its two sister models in the NC series each have the same engine, a long-stroke parallel twin with 670 cc displacement. The two cylinders have a bore of 73 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 80 mm with a compression ratio of 10.7: 1. It is based on the engine from the small Honda Jazz car , which has been reduced to two cylinders and optimized for use in a motorcycle. The performance characteristics of the engine are therefore more similar to those of a car, with a speed limit of 6500 rpm and relatively high torque in the lower and middle speed range. Among other things, this also results in the motorcycle's low fuel consumption: the figure is 3.7 l / 100 km, measured in WMTC mode (worldwide-harmonized motorcycle test cycle). Auto Zeitung magazine states the average consumption is 4.3 liters per 100 km. The Reihentwin is tilted forward by 62 degrees, which enables a good center of gravity and a low installation height. In order to reduce the number of components in the engine, the oil and water pumps are driven directly.

The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 168 km / h.

particularities

In front of the driver's seat, where the fuel tank is usually located, the NC 700 X has an approx. 21 liter storage compartment into which a full-face helmet fits. The 14.1 liter fuel tank is under the driver's seat, the tank cap is under the fold-up pillion seat. This means that the center of gravity is lower.

After the VFR 1200 F, the NC is the second motorcycle model from Honda with an optional dual clutch transmission (DCT).

Succession

At the EICMA motorcycle trade fair in Milan in November 2013, Honda presented a successor called the NC 750 X. The engine of the NC 750 X has 2 mm larger cylinder bores, has 75 cm³ more displacement and a nominal output increased to 40 kW (54 PS). As part of the facelift, the on-board computer was expanded to include various functions such as fuel consumption and gear displays. The combined ABS, on the other hand, was no longer carried over into the successor model, here a conventional anti-lock braking system takes over, in which both the front and rear brakes are operated separately. The successor has the factory code RC 72.

On January 29, 2016, Honda presented a revised version of the NC 750 X. In addition to new colors and design decors as well as LED headlights and taillights and an enlarged LCD color cockpit with bar display, the facelift measures include a higher windshield, a new Showa front fork, a Showa strut with adjustable spring preload, and a helmet compartment that has been enlarged by 1 liter under the fuel filler flap, a more compact silencer and a new DCT dual clutch transmission with three-speed sport mode. In addition, the NC 750 X is now classified in the Euro 4 emission class. This successor has the factory code RC 90.

Reviews

“The fact is that the key data of the brand new Honda NC 700 X pays homage to reason rather than to the principle of pleasure. In addition to the extremely low price of almost 6,000 euros, the new Volksmotorrad shines above all with its upscale everyday use instead of armor-piercing dynamics. "

- Wulf Weis : Motorcycle News

“A surprisingly good windbreak behind the small adjustable window and a huge 21-liter storage compartment under the dummy tank that can hold a helmet or rucksack complete the comfort. Of course, the NC 700 X does not attract attention with noble components, but its workmanship makes a good impression and it can be seen as a prime example of how you can put an incredibly inexpensive everyday motorcycle on the wheels with simple, but functioning components and a coordinated development. "

- Thilo Kozik : Handelsblatt

“The quality of the NC is impressive - despite the low price. A Honda that lives up to its name. For people who are looking for something reliable, calm and economical. "
