Hubert von Meyerinck (Lieutenant General)

Hubert Ludwig Otto von Meyerinck (born June 28, 1827 in Lödderitz , † April 5, 1900 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and military writer .

Life

He was the son of Heinrich von Meyerinck (1786–1848) and his wife Pauline Christiane Sophie, born von Rauchhaupt (1790–1854).

Military career

Meyerinck attended the cadet schools in Potsdam and Berlin from 1838 . At the request of his father, however, he resigned on March 31, 1844. On May 4, 1845 Meyerinck joined the 1st Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a fusilier . There he was on 15 January 1846 Portepeefähnrich appointed him and on February 13, 1847, the character as a second lieutenant awarded. As such, he took part in the crackdown on the barricade fighting in Berlin in 1848 . On May 10, 1849 Meyerinck was promoted to second lieutenant with a patent from February 13, 1847. Starting in April 1856, he took a six-month leave of absence to travel to England , France and Switzerland . After his promotion to Prime Lieutenant in May 1857, Meyerinck was commanded from October 1, 1857 for a year to the Guard Hussar Regiment in Potsdam and then transferred there. As Rittmeister and squadron chief he took part in the battles on the Eider , Eckernförde , Missunde and Fredericia in 1864 during the war against Denmark . His achievements were honored by the award of the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords.

Meyerinck took part in the war against Austria with his regiment in 1866 and was used in the battles at Thrush , Queen's Court and the Battle of Königgrätz . After the peace treaty , Meyerinck became major in May 1867 and transferred to regimental staff on March 22, 1868. In this capacity he fought during the war against France in 1870/71 at Gravelotte , Beaumont , Sedan , the Hallue , Bapaume and Saint-Quentin and during the siege of Paris .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Meyerinck was appointed commander of the 2nd Hessian Hussar Regiment No. 14 in Kassel after the Peace of Frankfurt on December 12, 1871 . In this capacity, he was promoted to followed on January 18, 1872 Lieutenant Colonel and on September 19, 1874 to Colonel . With the regimental uniform and the rank and fees as brigade commander, Meyerinck was transferred to the army officers on June 12, 1880 and appointed to represent the commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade . In position à la suite of his former regiment, he was appointed commander of the 29th Cavalry Brigade in Freiburg im Breisgau on October 9, 1880 . In this position promoted to major general on January 18, 1881 , Meyerinck received the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on September 16, 1885 . After being given the character of Lieutenant General, he was finally put up for disposal on November 12, 1885 with the statutory pension . In a subsequent appreciation of his services, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords, on March 22, 1897.

Meyerinck also wrote some works on military history .

family

He married on November 12, 1857 in Neubeesen with Gertrud Dietze (born July 7, 1837). The couple had the following children:

  • Wally Pauline Luise (born October 11, 1862)
