IC 1494 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S in the constellation Aquarius on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 430 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter. In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 1495 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 2, 1891 .
