IC 1970 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Horologium in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 49 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 45,000 ly.

The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on November 17, 1897 .
