IC 1956 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Taurus on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 285 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 135,000 light years in diameter.
The Type Ia supernova SN 2003in was observed here.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 22, 1897 .
