IC 1947 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E2 in the constellation Horologium in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 509 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 70,000 ly.   
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1356 , IC 1950 , IC 1959 , IC 1968 .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on October 14, 1898 .
