IC 1949 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble-type Sbc in the constellation pendulum clock in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 294 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 1944 and IC 1948 .
The type IIP supernova SN 2014dc was observed here.
The object was discovered on December 6, 1899 by DeLisle Stewart .
